Bush takes a victory lap

With the recent good news the president holds a press conference. Following his super secret visit to Iraq it seems the whitehouse is feeling a little more confident. I suppose he should feel good about no really bad news for the past couple of weeks. Time will tell if it will make any real difference in the polls. I’m sure Karl Rove is feeling his oats about now since he seems to have squeaked by an indictment.

Bush will not compromise on immigration bill

June 2, 2006 on 1:26 pm | In Political Powers | 1 Comment

Bush says he wants compromise but in reality he will not copromise.

He is steadfast that any bill must include

  1. Temporary Worker Program for illegals
  2. Opportunity for Citizenship for illegals

Typical Bush tactic ask others to “compromise” then lay out uncomprising terms. Nice try but just saying the words compromise does not equal a true compromise. On which points is he willing to compromise? My guess would be border security & enforcement. This issue will not go away and it will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Conditional talks with Iran possible

Assuming Iran agrees to halt all its enrichment activities, and assuming this is verifiable. I’m not sure I have faith in any verification. But it is good to see our government at least appearing to be reasonably diplomatic. The Bush style diplomacy of do what we say or we will kick your ass isn’t going over too well in most parts of the world. We currently have few diplomatic options with Iran so I see this as a positive step. Whether it bears any fruit or not it is the right gesture at the right time.

Democrats are keeping a low profile on illegal immigration issue

May 29, 2006 on 9:18 am | In Political Powers | 1 Comment

The best thing that democrats can do in regards to the illegal immigration issue is to do nothing. No there is a task that even they might not screw up. Not having a stance has been a perceived weakness of the democrats for some time now. As with most things cycle run full circle so maybe now a weakness will be a strength. The republicans are doing plenty to hurt themselves lately so whay not kick back and enjoy it while it lasts.
