What Is the Public Option?
The Nation’s Washington editor Chris Hayes explains the proposed healthcare reforms as part of a panel discussion at the Netroots Nation conference.

Now is the time to repeal the anti-trust exemption for insurance companies this will at least allow for a fair market with real competition. This should be supported on both sides of the isle. Conservatives typically support the free market and should support repeal of the insurance companies exemption from anti-trust laws. Liberals typically support fairness and should also support repeal of exemption for insurance companies.

    So much for a slow news month. August feels like campaign season, with claims on health care coming at us daily. Does the House bill call for mandatory counseling on how to end seniors’ lives sooner? Absolutely not. Will the government be dictating to doctors how to treat their patients? No. Do the bills propose cutting Medicare benefit levels? No on that one, too.
